Growkit Golden Teacher Full Auto

The Growkit Golden Teacher Full Auto is a classic kit with live Psilocybe cubensis mycelium of the Golden Teacher line. We prepare it by hand, under sterile conditions, on our own substrate. It is not an imported block that has spent a long time in a warehouse: every Golden Teacher growkit is made here and leaves fresh.

The Full Auto format means a maintenance-free kit: the mycelium develops in a closed system with a growbag and a filter. There is no need to air or mist it every day. That is convenient if you simply want to observe Golden Teacher mycelium, document its appearance and compare successive batches.

The product is legal in Poland as material for observation, education and collecting. The kit contains mycelium. At the time of purchase, the mycelium does not contain psilocybin. Fruiting bodies of psilocybin mushrooms are illegal in Poland, and we do not sell this growkit as a kit for growing fruiting bodies.

The history of Golden Teacher

Golden Teacher entered mycological circulation in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Florida is most often named, although the exact selection path is not fully documented. Even so, the line quickly became a point of reference: when people talk about Golden Teacher mushrooms or Golden Teacher mycelium, they almost always mean the same, well recognisable type of cubensis.

The name comes from two features. The first is the golden, “teacherly” look of the caps described in the sources, hence Golden Teacher. The second is the role this line has played for decades: it is the starting point for comparing other genetics. McKennaii, Mazatapec or the albino lines are usually positioned relative to Golden Teacher, not the other way round.

That is why the Golden Teacher growkit is so often the first kit in a collection. It is easy to identify, easy to describe and easy to tell apart from more temperamental strains. For someone just starting to observe mycelium, it is a safe starting point. For someone with experience, it is reference material you come back to when assessing other growkits.

Characteristics of Golden Teacher mycelium

In a well-prepared substrate, Golden Teacher mycelium grows evenly and predictably. It does not “jump” as much as some newer selections. In practice this means a clear picture of colonisation: a bright, dense network of hyphae, steady colonisation of the block and less tendency to stall oddly with small temperature fluctuations.

In the literature and in collectors’ descriptions, the Golden Teacher line has a fairly constant set of features:

• golden-brown cap, often with a lighter edge,
• pale, relatively sturdy stem,
• purple-brown spore print,
• moderate but regular pace of development.

It is this regularity that has earned Golden Teacher its reputation as a “baseline” line. It is not the fastest and not the most visually spectacular. But it is clear. For microscopic observation and photo documentation, that is an advantage: you can see what is happening without guessing whether the kit is alive at all.

Golden Teacher and psilocybin mushrooms

Golden Teacher mushrooms belong to the species Psilocybe cubensis. Psilocybin occurs naturally in the fruiting bodies of this species – hence the questions about psilocybin mushrooms, about the effects of Golden Teacher and about dosage. These are topics from the literature and from scientific reports.

This shop, however, sells something else: a growkit with mycelium. Psilocybin is not present in the mycelium at the time of purchase. It appears only in the fruiting bodies. Growing and possessing fruiting bodies is prohibited in Poland.

That is why on this page you will not find Golden Teacher dosage, a trip description or harvesting instructions. If you are looking for a Golden Teacher growkit for legal observation of the mycelium, you are in the right place. Other questions are beyond the scope of our offer.

What is in the kit and what to do after delivery

In the Golden Teacher growkit you get:

• a block with live Golden Teacher mycelium,
• a growbag with an air filter,
• a clip,
• a magnifier.

After delivery, put the kit in the fridge if you are not starting observation straight away. A temperature of 2-4°C slows further development and protects the viability of the mycelium. Golden Teacher does not cope well with several days in a parcel locker or a warm hallway, so please collect it without unnecessary delay.

When you take the kit out for observation:

• straighten the growbag so that the filter does not stick to the back wall,
• do not cut the bag open and do not remove the parts that close the Full Auto system,
• place the growkit at a stable temperature of 20-26°C, away from strong sunlight and radiators,
• leave the mycelium in peace – this format does not need to be opened every day.

This is product care, not instructions for growing fruiting bodies. The aim is to keep the Golden Teacher mycelium in a state in which it can be examined: with a magnifier, a camera, under a microscope.

How to store the Golden Teacher growkit

Freshness decides whether the Golden Teacher mycelium will still be white, dense and clear. That is why:

• keep the kit in the fridge until you start observation,
• do not leave it in the car or by a window,
• do not open the packaging “just to check” before the actual start,
• once it is open, do not go back to long-term storage as you would with a factory-sealed kit.

In the fridge, the Golden Teacher growkit usually stays usable for anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending on the batch and on how soon after production it was shipped. The shorter the journey from our workshop to you, the better the material, hence our own production and shipping from Poland rather than ageing in a wholesaler’s warehouse.

Many cheap kits are the same foreign block, just under a different label. We make our Golden Teacher growkit from the substrate up. We check moisture, sterility and whether the mycelium is actually colonising the substrate before the kit goes into the parcel.

The large variant holds approx. 3300 ml and weighs over two kilograms. That is a different scale from standard 1600 ml boxes. More substrate means more mycelium to observe and less of a feeling that “the kit was over after a week”.

If you want one growkit to start a collection with, Golden Teacher is the most obvious choice. The mycelium is clear, the line is well described, and comparisons with other genetics only make sense once you have seen the classic.

Growkit, spores and instructions

Golden Teacher is bought in two forms: as a growkit and as spores. They are not the same product.

The Golden Teacher growkit already has live mycelium on the substrate. You observe colonisation, the structure of the block and the pace of colonisation. Golden Teacher spores are for examining under a microscope and for collecting prints. If you need spores, choose a separate product page – this one is only for the growkit.

The instructions included with the kit cover storage, straightening the bag and observation conditions. They are not harvesting or dosage instructions. We do not answer the question “when to harvest Golden Teacher”, because harvesting fruiting bodies is outside the legal purpose of the product.

Legal information

The Golden Teacher growkit contains Psilocybe cubensis mycelium. The mycelium does not contain psilocybin at the time of purchase. Psilocybin mushrooms in the form of fruiting bodies, as well as psilocybin itself, are subject to the Act on Counteracting Drug Addiction.
